Why Must Everything Be

There
is an interesting contradiction present in our society. Nothing is ever
any one's fault - we must always blame someone else - a parent, the
government, someone, as long as it is not me! Contrasted with that is the
insatiable reed we seem to have to place place and have some one answer
for everything. Nothing can be accidental. Nothing ever just happens.
There is no room in our understanding of the world for something negative
to be the product of happenstance. Someone must be to blame! I think this must be a function of several things. First, it is a function of man's selfish and self-centered life view. We want someone to be responsible so someone is there to answer to us! For life has been disrupted, damaged, or inconvenienced and, by God, some one is going to pay! We think that we the right to have everything go our way and when it doesn't, we want some one to answer for why! Also, man knows instinctively that there really is no such thing as chance. But, because He has rejected God as a part of His world view he is left with the conviction that man can control everything if he simply tries hard enough. If things don't go right, then it must be because someone fell down on the job. We are so very arrogant that we believe ourselves capable of anything. Any departure from the ideal, then, is unacceptable. |
