Discerning True ImportancePastor Bill Farrow |

It is of critical importance to every believer that we learn to tell the difference between what is important to God and what is merely important to us. It is a certainty that there are markers. The first of those markers is always to be the direct teaching of the Word of God. The most basic of logic tells us that what the word of God clearly speaks to is of chef importance. There is no occaasion where our priorities may conflict with those of the Scripture. It largely goes without saying that believers ought to draw their priorities from the Bible. The sad truth is that much that we see as important is not important as far as the Scripture is concerned. Additionally, we need to understand that there should be a legitimate concern as to what we think of as important that Scripture tells us is assuredly not important. This is at least as important as the first idea. It is at least as important for us to know what is unimportant as it is to know what is important. In reality, the two spring from the same well. The truth of the Scripture will illuminate our hearts and minds and show us the path to walk between truth and error and discern what is important versus what is not important. And so, the first question we must ask ourselves is "Is this thing a priority as far as the Scripture is concerned?" |
