With Every Spiritual Blessing (Part 3) |
|
Just in passing, we note that Paul
specifically says that these blessings are "spiritual". This does not mean that
such blessings do not affect the physical realm. Rather, it tells us that these blessings
are conferred spiritually. This source and mechanism behind this blessing is the work of
God himself. The source of the answers for lifes problems is not to be found in the
experience of life itself. The source of real solutions is to be found only outside of
ourselves and our experience. We are finite creatures. If we look to our own resources or
to the resources of other finite creatures we, naturally, will receive finite answers.
This is fine for many of the mundane daily problems we face. It is perfectly acceptable to
look to other human beings for help in the temporal affairs of life. However, when it
comes to our nature, or to matters of spiritual import, such matters touching on the
creation of an infinite God of beings in his own image such finite counsel can only be
regarded as foolish and insufficient. Real, lasting answers must come from God, namely from his word. Otherwise we put ourselves in a position very similar to that of the Pharisees in Jesus day. Jesus told them that they were "... blind leaders of the blind". Obviously his intend was to convey the truth that if a blind person was to walk safely they must have help from others. Further, those that would help must themselves be free from blindness. In other words the blind mans help must come from outside of himself or both he and the "helper" will end up in the ditch. This is not to say that the blind and cannot do many things by himself. Those so challenged are capable, with proper training, to live very full and self-sufficient lives. However, it is obvious that there simply are some things that they cannot do for themselves. This is precisely the point that I am trying to make. The solution provided for the dilemma that man finds himself in morally, ethically, and especially spiritually, is not a situation that he can remedy himself. He is not equipped to provide such a solution by himself. It would be like trying to pick up and hold up both feet from the floor, using no props or anything other than yourself to support your weight. It is absurd to even think of such a thing. No, our help must come from outside of ourselves. The wondrous, exciting thing is that God has provided such help. In His Word, as it reveals the work of Jesus Christ, He has provided a comprehensive and sufficient revelation to accomplish the solution to mans predicament. His solution , and only His solution, can produce real results. |
