Creation, Evidence of a Master Craftsman

Genesis 1:7

I was in the home of a friend the other day and saw, in a place of prominence, a lovely scale model version of an early American Privateer ship. It was obviously had-made and had had much skill and time lavished on it as it was as near perfect a work of art as I have ever seen. As a consequence, I have recently decided to take up, or, I should say, re-take up, the hobby of building these wooden ship models. I did some of this kind of modeling when I was younger, but had fallen away from it some long time back in my teen years. Though I ceased doing the actual modeling, I never lost interest in the art. I kept my eyes open for such models, looked at magazines, kits in stores, and the like, all the while wanting to build, yet never having time of money to invest.

I suppose what I like best is the craftsmanship of the delicately built model. there is something about that kind of craftsmanship that is appealing to me. I feel the same kind of respect for some of the wonderful carpenters I have met. their ability with the intricacies of working with wood is awe inspiring, at least for me!

How much more impressed I am with the creation of God! One of the most despicable things that the world is teaching our youngsters is that all of this happened by chance! Imagine the shear act of will to believe such a thing! Let's put aside the taking of credit and glory from God by ascribing His work to random chance. Little need be said on that front. Let's just think for a moment on the sheer audacity and foolish self-confidence needed to make such an assertion.

No one will argue with the idea that we are finite creatures. We are what we are and nothing more. Our existence, a human being, had a beginning, and it will have an end. Our experience is limited to the realms of sight, sound, taste, smell, and touch. We have some limited understanding of the "other world" by our intellect and, mostly, because of what the Word of God tells us. Certainly, we must all admit that our experience and our knowledge is, at best, limited; and at worst, faulty!

How is it, then, we deign to make such sweeping statements as the atheist and the evolutionist make? For one to categorically, as they do, declare that creation is impossible, one would have to have encyclopedic of all that is, was, and will be; in addition to all that is beyond what we are capable of knowing. Now, as you see, this, by definition, is impossible!

I am reminded of the little parable, told by a philosopher now forgotten, in a proof for the existence of God. He told of walking through the forest and happening upon a watch on the forest floor. He went to great lengths to describe how he marveled at the forces of nature that must have come together to create the watch and place it in his path. He discussed the jeweled works, the gold case, the crystal, and all of the other parts with the zeal of the atheist, describing what "must" have happened to bring them to pass. He spoke of the titanic forces of nature that transported the various components and brought them together in just the right order and form. He even wondered at the marvel of how nature managed to wind the watch and set it to the proper time.

Of course, very quickly, his readers got the point. It is ludicrous to believe, really believe, that this watch had gotten where it was by such causes. Obviously, someone had dropped the watch, and that quite recently, because it was still running.

From there, he went on to speak of the creation of God. Creations maker, the living God is no more visible that the absent owner of the watch, or the builder of the model mentioned earlier. Yet, He is just as certainly present as either the watch owner or the builder, for all of the same reasons. How foolish to declare there is no God! No wonder the Scripture speaks so harshly of those who would deny God!
