Kind Begetting Kind

Genesis 1:12

Passage To Study: Genesis 1:12

And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

Flow of the Passage:

  • (Verse 12) – The earth obeys the command of God and brings forth vegetation.

What Do I Think About It?

It is interesting that the earth brings forth vegetation after its kind. This is, perhaps, the most direct and definite contradiction of the theory of evolution present in the Word of God’s account of creation. How is that you say? Let me explain.

The theory of evolution, by definition, teaches that each kind of living thing gradually changed (is changing) into something else better suited to survival in its environment. Each thing is gradually changing into something different. They will argue that the changes are so subtle as to not be the kind of radical change that we imply. But there must, of necessity, be time when a given species stops being what it is and becomes something different. Were this the case, there would have to be some evidence in the fossil record of these changes from one kind into another. Sadly (for the evolutionist) no such transitional forms exist.

As creationists, we would argue that this is because of the design of God. These transitional forms do not exist, because no transitional species have ever existed. There can be no transition from one species into another because each species is designed such that it brings forth seed after its own kind, and not after any other kind. This is universally the case in the account of creation as recorded in the Bible. From vegetation to man, all bring froth seed after its own kind; that is, it reproduces and brings forth more of the same kind of being or thing that the parent is.

This is not to rule out variation with a given species. All of God’s creation has built in the capability to adapt to its surroundings and modify itself, to a degree, to accommodate the particularities of the environment in which it finds itself. Thus we see various forms of cat, dog, etc. based on the part of the world that they live in and the skills required of it to survive. This is, however, not evolution, but is only variation.

There is a big, big difference between the two. That difference is the difference we have noted, the change within the same kind, versus the change from one kind to another, different kind. We need to note that this is “non-negotiable” point according to the Word of God. The fact is that the created order is not capable of reproducing in any other fashion. It doesn’t matter how much we want to try and manipulate the facts, they remain constant and unassailable. Reproduction outside of the “kind” is not possible. This is the way God has ordained that His creation works. Just like up is up and down is down. It cannot be any other way.

What Difference Does This Make To Me?

The basic issue here is whether or not we can take the Word of God at its face value, or if we need to “interpret” it and “explain” it in order to accommodate the claims of humanistic science. The fact is that we are entirely too intimidated by the men who would thrown down the Bible and who make claims that contradict it. Either the Bible is trustworthy, or it is not trustworthy. Either it means what it says, or it does not. Either it is the authority over what did and what did not happen before there were any men around to see, or it is not the authority, and man is the authority and determines what he wishes. It is a terribly dangerous and profoundly ungodly thing to seek to synthesize the wisdom and intent of the world, with the account of the one true and living God as recorded in the Scripture. God created each kind to reproduce itself after its own kind, not according to some other kind. The godly heart will believe this and will see its wisdom. The ungodly heart, sadly, cannot and will not see it until it is too late, and God’s judgment has fallen.

Is There Anything For Me To Do?

I need to allow the Word of God to speak and say what it says. I need to honor it and proclaim it for all to hear, and in spite of all who deny and belittle it.
