-
Unlike His Creatures whose every experience is reckoned
to the unfolding of time, God Himself is above all constraints of
space and time.
-
He is not dependent on any power or authority outside of
Himself, nor did any other cause initiate His beginning.
-
He is without beginning and without end, and cannot be
described in terms of "past" or "future," but only
as ever-present (and that is inadequate and inaccurate).
-
God does not say "I was" or "I shall
be," but rather, "I Am."
1. God has no past nor does He await the future, He
is ever "present."
-
And God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And He
said, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has
sent me to you.'" (Ex. 3:14)
2. God did not have a beginning, nor will His life
ever end.
-
"Behold, God is great, and we do not know Him;
Nor can the number of His years be discovered. (Job 36:26)
-
Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all
generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had
formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting,
You are God. You turn man to destruction, And say,
"Return, O children of men." For a thousand years in Your
sight Are like yesterday when it is past, And like a
watch in the night. (Psalm 90:1-4)
-
Who has performed and done it, Calling the
generations from the beginning? 'I, the Lord,
am the first; And with the last I am He.'" (Isa. 41:4)
-
"Thus says the Lord,
the King of Israel, And his Redeemer, the Lord
of hosts: 'I am the First and I am the Last; Besides Me there
is no God. (Isa. 44:6)
3. God's dominion over all creatures is eternal.
-
But You, O Lord,
shall endure forever, And the remembrance of Your name to all
generations. (Psalm 102:12)
-
Did You not pour me out like milk, And curdle me like
cheese, (Job 10:10)
-
which He will manifest in His own time, He who is
the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16who
alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man
has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power.
Amen. (1 Tim. 6:15-16)
4. God's eternal existence is not dependent on
anyone else, for he alone has life within Himself and is the only source
of life for any of His creatures.
